George Square rocked St Andrew's Day in a blur of sound, colour and dance as the city honoured Scotland's Patron Saint. As part of the Winterfest events, supported by the Scottish Government, George Square became a celebration of all things Scottish.
Despite some customary November rain an estimated 5,000 spectators from all around Scotland and beyond enjoyed a wonderful evening of music and dance. Scotland's first professional cross-cultural dance company, Danceihayami, kicked off the party with their unique fusion of Indian dance and Scottish music. Bahookie, a ceilidh band comprising graduates from the RSAMD raised the tempo with some traditional dance including a giant Strip the Willow and a lively Military Two-Step.
Barra natives the Vatersay Boys took the audience on a whirlwind tour of Scottish ceilidh dance before the city centre echoed to sound of pipes and drum courtesy of the Johnstone Pipe Band.
The Picts brought their unique celtic rock sound to the Square for some energetic dancing before Four Good Men closed the show with contemporary Scottish classics from the likes of Simple Minds and H20.
Glasgow's Lord Provost Robert Winter and Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon MSP thanked the crowds for their attendance and reminded them of the importance of celebrating the cultural diversity of modern Scotland.
