15,000 revellers from across Scotland and further afield braved the chill to enjoy the best in Scottish music at Glasgow’s Hogmanay 2007.
Host for the evening Clyde 1’s George Bowie and DJ Tam Coyle welcomed spectators with music to get everyone into the party mood.
The Strathclyde Police Pipe Band opened the live music on stage with the songs and sounds synonymous with Scotland. The 12-time winners of the World championships then handed over to one of the hottest prospects on the pop music scene.
Glasgow’s very own Amy Macdonald treated the massive George Square crowd to tracks from her debut album ‘This is the Life’. Following a whirlwind year of live shows and TV appearances Amy was on top form. The singer-songwriter played recent release ‘LA’ and forthcoming single ‘Run’ before belting out her breakthrough hit ‘Mr Rock & Roll’.
Dundee’s greatest export since the RRS Discovery, The View stormed the stage with an energetic headline performance. Living up to recent hype they played hits from their Mercury Award nominated album ‘Hats off to the Buskers’. Latest releases including ‘Face for the Radio’ and the ode to sound career advice ‘Superstar Tradesman’ swept the capacity audience along to their biggest hit to date ‘Same Jeans’.
Rousing Scottish tunes courtesy of Tam Coyle took the 15,000 spectators through to the Hogmanay countdown before 2008 was welcomed in a blaze of sound and light as fireworks exploded above the City Chambers.
Suspiciously Elvis, backed by a massive 10-piece backing band, closed out the evening with some of Elvis Pressley’s greatest hits spawning a multitude of number 1 hit records. |
