The Queen's Baton Relay 2010 Delhi is coming to Glasgow!

The Queen's Baton Relay 2010 Delhi will travel across the globe to celebrate the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games which will take place next October. Glasgow is delighted to announce that the Baton will visit the Shindig event on Sunday the 29th November then lead the light procession from George Square to St. Andrew's in the Square.

A Commonwealth tradition

The Queen's Baton Relay is one of the great traditions of the Commonwealth Games.  It symbolises the gathering of people from across the Commonwealth at a four yearly festival of sport and culture.  Queen's Baton Relays have been the curtain raiser to every games since Cardiff, Wales in 1958.

One of the longest relays in history will commence when the Queens Baton 2010 Delhi leaves Buckingham Palace on the 29th of October 2009, by the end of this epic journey, the baton will have travelled for 340 days and covered in excess of 190,000 kilometres passing through the hands of many thousands of people.

Route for the Relay

The Queen's Baton Relay Delhi 2010 will be in Scotland over the weekend of the 28th - 30th of November 2009 and the main action within Glasgow will take place on Sunday the 29th to coincide with St Andrew's day celebrations.  The baton will travel across the city on this day visiting a number of iconic landmarks and will enter the city centre at approx 3pm for the official start of the "Relay" which will include a Welcome Ceremony on the stairs of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. 

The baton is coming to Scotland from Gibraltar and leaves to visit Cyprus next
